CHANGE ORDER MANAGEMENT 

Changes are an inevitable part of the construction process but if not managed well, change orders can cause unnecessary project disruptions and lead to cost increases and schedule delays. This course will provide participants with best practices for successfully navigating this complex project management challenge

CIVIL BLUEPRINT READING

This is a one day course to learn how to read a set of civil construction blueprints, drawing specifications and general notes. Using various samples of civil sitework blueprints, participants will gain experience and practical knowledge for their day-to-day work on construction sitework projects. 

CIVIL SITEWORK ESTIMATING

The course is designed for those interested in becoming civil sitework estimators and for workers with experience in construction that desire to improve their knowledge of sitework estimating.

CONSTRUCTION BUSINESS MANAGEMENT

Construction owners, managers, estimators, supervisors and staff will learn how to improve management and systems of their construction company. Specifically how to do strategic and business planning in construction including marketing, HR management, operations and financial planning.

CONSTRUCTION ESTIMATING

Designed for construction estimators and those with experience in construction who want to become estimators or improve their knowledge of estimating. Participants learn how to estimate construction projects and prepare a successful bid.

CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY ETHICS 

You face ethical grey areas every day – and this one-day course will give you the tools you need to respond effectively! Through practical, hands-on, examples, you will learn the core principles of ethical behaviour and gain the skills to evaluate situations and make decisions using an ethical framework. Designed to help you engage the principles of ethical practices in your real-world work, by the end of this course, you will be able to conduct and analyze a risk assessment, communicate about ethics with your team and spot and respond to unethical behavior appropriately.

CONSTRUCTION PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Participants will develop skills and knowledge of how to manage a construction project. Participants will gain an understanding of the project processes and constraints encountered by project managers (using PMBoK 5th Edition approach) and how to successfully manage a complex project.

CONSTRUCTION LAW

The Construction Law course is designed for construction owners, managers, estimators and supervisors to develop an understanding of contract law as it relates to construction. The learners will build practical skills and learn how to effectively and proactively deal with conflict situations and avoid litigation. The course will also review other construction related law such as the builders liens, collecting debts, bonding, insurance, environmental law and safety law.

Gold Seal: 5 Credits * BC Housing: 2 Group A CPD Points, 30 Group B CPD Points.

INTRODUCTION TO BLUEPRINT READING

Participants will learn how to read a set construction blueprints and specifications. Using both residential and commercial samples of blueprints, participants will gain experience and practical knowledge for their day-to-day work in construction companies. Participants advance through the phases of blueprint reading in order to understand drawings, specifications and do a simple material takeoff. This course is ideal for those who have little or no background in blueprint reading.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS FOR CONSTRUCTION

Great communication is essential for construction leaders. This course is designed specifically for a construction context and assists participants to learn how to improve their listening, speaking and writing skills as construction leaders. 

SUPERVISORY & MANAGEMENT SKILLS

Construction supervisors and leaders will develop an understanding of how to manage people in a construction context. Participants will improve their skills in leadership, management, and supervision of staff. Participants will learn skills to enhance their ability to build a collaborative team culture with their staff and on job sites.

WRITING EFFECTIVE LETTERS, SCOPE DOCUMENTS, AND REPORTS

This seminar is focused on helping you to do exactly that: to write more effectively. You’ll learn to tailor your writing for your audience and purpose. You’ll apply the strategies required for effective scope documents, letters, and reports. In addition, you’ll also incorporate key principles for editing and revising your documents.
