Project Spotlight – Community Centre and Administration Building, Cheslatta Carrier Nation

Situated in a remote location, accessible only by ferry across Francois Lake near Keefes Road and York Road, 28 km south of Burns Lake, Marmot Builders constructed a 37,000 sq-ft combined community centre and administration building for the Cheslatta Carrier Nation. The design blends a pre-engineered steel superstructure for the gymnasium/hall with wood framing for the administration area, complementing the surrounding environment.

The project incorporates 12 custom logs crafted by local First Nation artists, embedding cultural significance, and features striking cantilevered steel canopies at main entrances for aesthetic appeal and durability. Marmot Builders provided well-paying construction and site labor jobs for local First Nation members for over two years, fostering community engagement. Collaborating closely with the Nation, the building reflects community values while meeting operational needs, serving as a functional and culturally significant space that promotes community empowerment and regional growth.
